Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 8, 2026

How information is handled when you use Closer.

1. Who operates Closer

Closer is operated by Chak Kwan Lai ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy covers the Closer conversation app and its legal website. Where applicable privacy law uses the term, Chak Kwan Lai is the controller of personal information handled for these services.

2. Information stored on your device

Closer saves Connection Journey progress on your device so you can return to a session. This includes the relationship category you selected, session and question identifiers, card backgrounds, your current question position, and whether a session is in progress or completed.

The current app does not send this progress to a Closer server or sync it through a Closer account. Your operating system may include app data in device backups, depending on your settings.

Closer displays prompts but does not provide an answer-entry or audio-recording feature. It does not record spoken conversations or save written answers. Its current conversation features do not require an account or request your name, email address, contacts, precise location, camera, or microphone.

3. Purchases and app stores

Closer offers paid subscriptions through the app store and uses RevenueCat to check premium access, process purchase results, and restore purchases. RevenueCat connects when the app starts to check subscription status, including for people who have not purchased.

RevenueCat assigns an anonymous app user identifier. It processes purchase and subscription records, such as product and transaction identifiers, receipts or purchase tokens, purchase and expiration dates, and entitlement status, together with technical information such as device platform and app version. We use this information to provide paid access, resolve billing issues, prevent fraud, and understand subscription performance through RevenueCat's reporting. Closer does not send your journey progress or conversation answers to RevenueCat.

Closer does not create a personal login or send your name or email address to RevenueCat through its subscription integration. Anonymous identifiers still distinguish subscription records; they do not mean that no data is processed. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Apple and Google may separately process information about downloads, store accounts, and platform diagnostics under their own policies and your settings. Closer does not receive full payment card details from an app store.

4. Website visits and external links

Opening Terms or Privacy launches an external browser. The legal website is hosted on Vercel. Loading a page sends technical request information, including your IP address, requested address, and browser headers, to the hosting infrastructure to deliver the page and help secure the service.

These legal pages do not include advertising pixels or analytics scripts and do not set their own cookies. Vercel may process request logs and other technical information for hosting, reliability, and security under its own service practices.

See Vercel's Privacy Notice for its own practices. External sites you choose to visit are governed by their respective policies.

5. Information you send to support

If you contact us, we receive the contact details and message contents you choose to provide. We use them to respond, resolve issues, and handle requests. Avoid sending private conversation answers or other sensitive information unless needed for your request.

Our support address uses Gmail, provided by Google. Email messages and attachments are processed by that service to deliver and store correspondence. See Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Use and disclosure of information

Local progress supports journey features. Website request information supports page delivery and security. Support correspondence helps us respond to you. Closer does not include advertising or cross-app advertising tracking. RevenueCat processes subscription information for billing functionality and subscription analytics; we do not transmit journey selections or conversation answers for advertising.

RevenueCat, app stores, Vercel, and our email provider process information needed to provide subscriptions, hosting, and support. Information we actually hold may also be disclosed when legally required or reasonably necessary to address fraud, security incidents, or protect legal rights, subject to applicable law. These circumstances do not give us remote access to local journey progress.

When you tap Copy question, Closer writes that question to your device clipboard. Your operating system, clipboard-sync settings, and apps you paste into determine how that copy is handled. Closer does not read your existing clipboard. If you share a copied question or a screenshot, your chosen recipients and services handle those copies under their own practices.

7. Retention and security

Journey progress stays in local app storage until reset or removed with the app's data. It is not stored in a dedicated encrypted vault. Device access controls and backup settings affect its protection. Secure your device and avoid sharing access to it.

Resetting a journey removes saved progress for that relationship category. Removing app data or deleting the app generally removes its local data; offloading an app or restoring a backup may preserve or restore it.

Support correspondence is retained as needed to respond to your request, resolve follow-up issues or disputes, and meet applicable legal obligations. Subscription records are retained as needed to verify and restore purchases, handle billing disputes, prevent fraud, and meet legal requirements. Website logs and provider backups are subject to the relevant providers' retention practices. Retention depends on the purpose and applicable obligations rather than a single fixed period.

Deleting the app or resetting a journey does not cancel a subscription or automatically delete records held by RevenueCat, an app store, or our support provider. Contact us about deletion of information we control; records may need to be retained for legal obligations or unresolved disputes. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

8. Your choices and privacy rights

Use Reset Journey on a journey's roadmap to clear its saved progress. Use device settings to manage app data and backups. We cannot remotely retrieve, correct, or erase progress stored only on your device.

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information we hold; object to or restrict processing; withdraw consent where processing relies on consent; or complain to a privacy regulator.

Contact us to make a request, including requests concerning subscription records processed for Closer. We may need proportionate information to verify and locate your records because the app does not collect a name or email for subscription identification. Do not send your store password or full payment-card details. We will apply the rights and response periods required by applicable law and explain if we do not hold the requested information.

9. Regional requirements and processing locations

Where a legal basis is required, processing needed to provide requested services may rely on performance of a contract; proportionate security and support processing may rely on legitimate interests; legally required processing relies on legal obligations; and optional processing requiring permission relies on consent.

Our subscription, hosting, and email providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Privacy protections may differ from those in your country. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, those requirements apply to the processing described here. Contact us for information about transfers relevant to your request.

10. Children's privacy

The app's conversation features do not ask for a date of birth or record answers. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through support, contact us so we can assess and address it under applicable law.

Parents and guardians should choose prompts appropriate for their children and supervise purchases. Children should not send private information to support. Where applicable law requires parental permission to use the service or process a child's information, that permission is required.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when relevant practices change and identify the effective date. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent when required. If our features or data practices change, we will update this policy to reflect those changes.
